This Software Has Flatlined gets its title from an infamous error message accompanying early releases of Cyberpunk 2077, a game so well-known for its glitch-ridden rollout that its reputation has barely improved despite its many issues having been patched since. The piece is characterized by its abrasive, boss battle-esque main theme and sudden shifts in mood. The main idea is virtuosically tossed around the ensemble amidst interruptions of every kind: explosive audio clipping, beautiful percussion interludes, abrupt changes in volume. The music imitates the heroic desperation of a player attempting to navigate a challenging boss battle despite a constant onslaught of glitches, and it is ultimately ambiguous whether they are victorious by the end.
